In a nutshell: This study of 2,000 mothers who received peer breastfeeding support looked at factors in breastfeeding cessation.  The report concludes that ethnicity and number of previous births were factors.  However recognised factors in breastfeeding cessation such as marital status, mode of delivery, timing of breastfeeding initiation and socio-economic deprivation were not found to be issues.

In a nutshell: This research sought to develop policy recommendations based on assessing evidence-based studies and consulting UK based practitioners, service users, managers and commissioners.  The research concluded that clear national policy directives were needed.  The research suggested 25 recommendations in the categories of public health policy, mainstream clinical practice and local interventions.

In a nutshell: This research looked at attitudes to healthy eating information by mothers.  It suggests that inconsistencies and perceived bias in such information, coupled with a personal sense of  ‘mothering instinct’ has made mothers suspicious of nutritional advice with regards to infant nutrition.  The researchers conclude that information strategies should be designed to support and not threaten the mother’s intuitive attitude to feeding.
