In a nutshell: Barrow Borough Council are asking local businesses and organisations to be “breastfeeding friendly” in a bid support and promote breastfeeding in the borough, and to combat feelings of  being uncomfortable or even stigmatised that have arisen when a mother breastfeeds in public.

In a nutshell: A project in Kilmarnock has been initiated to help support breastfeeding in the area.  Local businesses have been sent packs to tell them about the law in regard to breastfeeding and how they can support breastfeeding women, with display stickers informing breastfeeding mothers that they are welcome.  Local health workers are also seeking to encourage more younger mothers to attend classes on how to feed babies and other aspects of care by using a “youth-friendly” approach.

Arriva Buses in the Midlands sign up to breastfeeding scheme

In a nutshell: Arriva Midlands has signed up to a scheme supporting mothers who wish to breastfeed in public.  The Stafford-based ‘Freedom To Feed’ scheme means that bus drivers on Arriva will “be expected to support breastfeeding mothers if objections arise from other members of the public”.  The initiative is run by the National Childbirth Trust to encourage public places to allow breastfeeding by mothers.
