In a nutshell: This research attempts to fill a gap in knowledge regarding breast cancer and breastfeeding.  It suggests that uncertainty with regards to “maternal safety” has meant that many women who have experienced breast cancer have being advised not to breastfeed.  The study concludes that there should be more support and counselling for breast cancer survivors in relation to breastfeeding.

In a nutshell: This Australian research suggests that women who are diagnosed with breast cancer in the 12 months after they have completed a pregnancy were more likely to die than other young women with breast cancer. However the researchers stressed that more research is needed to understand these results and that the benefits of breastfeeding for mother and baby outweigh the potential risks.
